production log week 4

This week i was working with the lights on the live day. I had to position them correctly so that everything was lit up  and looking effective at the same time. I had to move the lights in between breaks to set up for a new scene.

I think that the way i handled the lighting this week was successful as there was no mistakes made i felt that i was good with the lights as well as being safe with them i think that the lights not falling over was a success because there were a lot of people surrounding them so it could of fell over at any time

I think i could of changed the gels on the lights. I think i was playing it safe because i didn't want anything to mess up the live day so i definitely could've been more creative in that section. I think i could of also added more lighting techniques i think i was also playing it safe then because i was concerned that there wouldn't be enough time to be constantly be moving the lights through out breaks.

I think the team worked well together and i also got help from the camera crew. I was asking them how the lighting looked on the camera to ensure that it would look effective.

Overall i think i done well on live day i think that i could of tried out more lighting techniques to make the live day look more creative but apart from that i think i done quite good. I was on time with the lighting movements for example when hot or not came on i had to move the camera to the side as it was in the shot because the hot or not was filmed in a different location. So i had to be ready to move that camera as soon as it came on.Then i had to move the camera back for the lyp-syncing competition which was very hard to do without it effecting the camera. On the whole i thought i did well.

Production log week 3

This week i finished my lighting page. I had to research different lighting techniques so that i would know how to set up the lights for the live day. A few examples of lighting techniques is a high key position which is basically covering all the shadows with light to brighten up the mood of the scene. I also finished the script-lighting document. For this i had to fill out the lighting section for the script so that i know what to do and when to do it i had to think what lighting technique would be best for the specific scene in the show.

The thing that was successful this week was that I managed to finish all the work for the week which allowed me to filling in my production log early and help out other students with their work which allows our class to  get work done quicker.

I think I need to change and develop my lighting script because i did not really have a variety of different lighting techniques due to the fact that there was not many changes in the scene so i could only stick to two or three techniques and if i had more it would probably get too complicated.

Next week is when our live day will take place so i will be in charge of the lighting department on that day. I will probably be helping others to finish their work as well. I will also be finishing off bits of work that need correcting.

The team that i worked with this week were very helpful as the helped me finish my work which allowed me to help other people.

pitch for live show

Programme Format -

The programme will be showing for 30min with competitions and interviewers

Title Of Show- Turnt up-

I chose this name because its trendy and it is associated with music now these days. I think that it will appeal to my target audience more as they would know what the title means. The title means that a song/music video is really good and high up in the charts making the song very popular. I think that the majority of the young people will like the idea and this should allow to tune in to every show.

Content ideas-

I would like to have lots of interesting and funny scenes to keep the audience entertained. I would also like to have a part where the public can ask questions by doing this it can engage the viewers but i would not like too much questions as it can start to get repetitive and boring. These questions could be asked by using Skype or facetime which allows us to see the face of the person who asked the question. I think that all the music should be the latest and very popular as it will attract 12-20 yr olds as that is my target audience. A competition will also be included in the show. he guests will have to sing a song and then the opposition will have to guess who who the song was performed by

Running Order-

  1. Introduction-This part will have an introduction of what the program sis and what is going be shown throughout the video. ( 2min)
  2. The guests are introduced on to the set and then they take a seat
  3. Song- A music video will be shown Monique and Kori (3min)
  4. Guests and presenters talk about the music video (5min)
  5. Skype and facetime calls (2min)
  6. 2min of adverts (2min)
  7. Rashan Music video (3min)
  8. Third artists interview (2min)
  9. Skype and facetime calls (2min)
  10. Competition at the end. (5min)

Studio Design-

Lots of urban designs around the walls.Bright colors to make the studio look lively . I would like to have fun looking chairs as well to make the interviews lee formal than people think they should be.I would not like to have lots of different colours otherwise it would not appeal to the viewers and it would also look unprofessional. I will have cameras placed in a line at the back to capture everything. I will have a round table in the middle for tea and biscuits and i have included to chairs on both sides. One for the guests and one for the presenters

Sketch Of Background-d

I have made my background like this because its attractive and i think that the audience will like it as it looks urban and effective. The speakers show that the show will be about music along with the volume behind it.

Visual Style -

The production will be fast paced with fast cutting to show as many shots as we can in a small amount of time. I will have the cameras placed in a line of three towards the back of the setting. I have done this because i want to capture the whole room which allow the audience to see everything.

Presentation Style-

I would have the presenters acting lively and cool. The dialogue should not be formal at any point. This keeps the style of the production feel urban. I would have them make some jokes throughout the production but not to many as it will ruin the atmosphere. The presenter should make the guests feel welcome on to the show to create a nice flow with in the show.

Production reflection meeting 2

This week I completed a risk assessment and had to share it with the class. The hazzards were that the lights could fall and break or the light bulb could burst and the hot glass would spread out and hit people

Next week i will be working on more things to do with the lighting desk to make sure everything is completed for the live day. I will also be looking at the red heads next to ensure that i will be able to work them. When i am workimg with these lights i will have to make sure that i am able to visualise the hazzards around the area

The production meeting went well i think that everyone took in the information I had to say and they did not hold back on asking questions. The teacher also corrected me which also allowed me to gain knowledge  from it.

I also worked with other people because our job roles were similar for example web both had a hazzard where drinks could spill in the eletroics and damage them me and my friend were able to come up with hazzards to complete our work quicker

Production meeting reflection 1

Production meeting reflection 1

The production meeting was run in the classroom. Everyone had a go to share their ideas with the rest of the class and we also had to listen to everyone ideas and make notes on them. At the end we had a chance to ask questions about their idea.

I think the group thought my idea was good and they did not hold back on asking questions about my idea. They thought that the thought of me having a girl guest and a boy guest on the show was excellent because it showed that the show wasn't just for boys. They thought that would create a wider target audience.

I voted for Chloe browns idea I really like her idea because i was clear and looked like it could work without any complications getting involved with it. I thought her idea about the hot or not game was unique and would make the show so much fun.

I think that Chloe’s content ideas could include more for example she should include different types of interviews to keep it interesting. I think that she could have included more fun competitions as well to make the production flow.

I thought that yanicks idea was stronger than Chloe’s. I also think that it would be easy to create an effective logo that links with the title. I like Omar’s guest vs presenters dance battle, I think that this will bring the production to life.

Genres & Reasons

Live Sports-UFC

Aesthetic

This video look visually pleasing for a number of reasons mainly because the cameras capture a range of interesting shots for example at 0.58 you can see the audiences reactions which gives you a taste of the atmosphere around the area. We can also see at 1:02 there is a shot where it is zoomed out and you can see the ring and the audience which gives the viewers a nice setting to look at. It also shows you how big the event is because we can just about see the whole audience in the shot. From 1:11 and 1:30 the camera follows both of  the participants and they do a little signature move which gives the audience an understanding of the fighters style. From 2:36 on the camera focuses on the fighters when they are battling on the ground which makes it exciting when watching. The visual style in this video is quite aggressive as we can see that the two men fighting which creates an exciting but serious atmosphere as the two men are physically hurting each other. The video maintains the viewers interest by including action packed unexpected movements which will capture the audiences attention straight away as we can see at 2:35 as he tackles his opponent down to the ground you can really fell the impact in he shot that was captured.

Practical

It is better to use multi-camera for this live event because the cameras are able to cover all of the action going on in and outside of the ring  which gives the viewers full advantage of seeing every single detail. At 2:36 if there were only one camera trying to cover the shot it is most likely that you will not see the action going on because you are only seeing what is going on from one side and that is why it is good to use multi camera because the camera can be planted at a range of locations to ensure every shoot is captured.

Concerts- Jay-Z

Aesthetic

Live concerts allow the audience to become engaged with the artist as they have some sort of connection because it is live for example at 0:41 to 0:45 you can see the artist doing a hand movement. You can then see the audience copying the hand movement in sync. This shows how the audience can be influenced by the artist. At 1:37 there is a side shot of the artist through out the concert there are different shot types which makes it more effective for the viewers. At the very start of the video 0:0 the scene is set in a big arena which lets the viewers share the feeling of how huge this even is we can also see this at 0:23 when the artist is coming up form the ground. This shot is really effective because it signifies the amount of people that came to watch the performance. The visual style of this video creates a ecstatic surrounding as we can see a lot of people in the audience jumping up and down at 1:57  the video maintains the viewers interest by showing that the artist is enjoying performing at 3:20 we see the artist with a smile on his face.

Practical

This live concert is better shot with multi camera because the artist is singing live to the audience so there wouldn't be any point filming with single shots as it would not flow. The atmosphere would not be the same because you would have to keep cutting a lot which would break up the live effect. If there were only one camera it would be difficult to understand what is going on so that is why we need to use multi camera to cover every important part. The coverage of action in this video is live on stage

Public Events-Olympics

Aesthetic

Multi camera makes public events look much more intriguing because the camera is able to swoop around and capture the whole event. For example in the Olympics they use a wide range of cameras to follow the action where bikes and cars are  included to record the action. The visual style of this video is really competitive which makes the atmosphere of the video exciting. At 3:22 there is a shot of all the athletes just before the start which creates excitement because the audience knows that it is going to start any second. The video  maintains the viewers interest by following every step of the winner of the race which can be seen at 4:03 by following the winner it gives the audience a taste of how the winner of the race is feeling this would capture the audiences attention and make them have their own opinions of what they think about the winning athlete.
This video communicates that it is an exciting but serious competition as we can see all the athletes looking serious at the start and the after the race was finished the winner was celebrating sharing the excitement with other people around them

Practical

Multi camera is the best option for a live event because it is easier to cover all the action that is going on because there are about more than 5 cameras from the 1-3 there are a range of different shots that came from more than 3 cameras this makes it easier to capture every detail that is going on in the eventMulti camera is also needed to cover the size of the constricted  area which is effective because the camera can have access to all locations on the site which allows the cameras to cut from event to event but still have all of the footage covered for example at  4:18 you can see how the two cameras go from one location to another which allows the audience to catch up on anything that happened previously.
By simultaneous recording  the public even it ensures that nothing will be missed especially if something unexpected happened for example one of the athletes dropping the camera will then be focused on that athlete. 1:46 we can see an important part of the race being recorded again which refreshes the audience memory just in case they missed it which reassures them when they see it because they know they have not missed anything

Game Shows

Aesthetic

Game shows are filmed in small studios to create a focused atmosphere which maintains the viewers interest by focusing the main action with in the show. The game show is focused on a small stage keeping everything squashed up but there is still an audience watching which shares the atmosphere with viewers. We can see how small the stage is at 0:25. The visual style of this video is exciting  which keeps the audience tuned in. The reactions we revive from the people on stage also keeps the audience and viewers entertained  The meaning to the viewers is communicated by adding exciting little challenges in. This also keeps the audience entertained which can be seen at 0:36

Practical

Multi camera is needed in game shows to cover the action of  the competitors the host and the audience all in one or at different times  which can be seen in the first 13 seconds which captures shots of the competitors the host and audience. we can also see where the constraints of the location are when they have filmed off scene in another location which shows you at 0:46

Chat Shows-Jeremy Kyle Show

Aesthetic

This visual style of this show is meant to be serious and intense this show is  alive chat show where people come and talk about problems faced in life. By doing this it also engages the audience because there is always something spontaneous with in the show. The audience instantly can tell what the visual style is right from the moment the video starts. The first 20 seconds of the video shows you how serious the situation is. The video maintains the viewers attention by creating a load of drama and unexpected actions for example at 1:58 there are members of the audience shouting at the woman which we wouldn't expect. The meaning of this video is shown by continuous arguing and then the host having to sort it out at the end as we can see at 5:10

Practical

The coverage of action in this video is live as we can see at 1:04 it needed to be recorded like this to make sure all the real feelings were getting caught on camera The constraints of this video is that they could be filming the wrong people at the wrong times making it confusing to the viewers when watching.By simultaneously recording it would be effective to capture parts like 3:55 and 3:59  as both parts are still getting recorded live but two different things are going on in two different places allowing the audience to keep up with both parts of the video without getting lost. This could not be filmed with a single camera as there will be many important shots that will be missed out on however if multi camera is used all the shots will be caught in action as they cannot be re-done. From using multi camera it captures peoples instant reactions this is shown at 1:52

Magazine Shows

Aesthetic

The visual style for this is exciting as a lot of action and jokes take place and this occurs at 3:15 by joking around and having fun it also engages the viewers to join in on the fun. The viewer’s maintain interest through the jokes and audience that are there to laugh and the competition with the cars this can be seen at 2:40 The communication to the viewer is showed at 5:32 where there is a lot of eye contact with the viewers.

Practical

The coverage of action for this is ‘as live’ however the multi-camera makes it seem live. The multi-camera coverage allows of action allows all areas of the studio to be caught without missing any of the action and this can be seen at 0:43 and a constraint could be that there are people walking in front of the camera which can block the presenters.

Talent Show

Aesthetic

Britain’s got talent is a competition series that is there to entertain the viewer’s and this can be seen at 2:13 where the girl performs backflips to entertain the audience we gain the live audience reactions and the viewers are able to adapt to the atmosphere that is going on in the arena. The visual style and mode of address for this is intense and also exciting and this can be seen at 2:08 we can see that the presenters are excited which makes the performance look positive. The meaning of this performance is communicated to the viewer through karate and this can be seen when the audience cheer 3:06 showing the viewers that it was a good performance

Practical

The coverage of action for this is live and it can be seen at 0:19 this then makes the performance more eye catching to the audience. The constraints of the area location are that some camera can be placed in the wrong position and the crew members could get in the way. The multi-camera allows all the areas of the location to be covered and this can be seen at 0.19 and 0:25 From different angles. By simultaneously recording in this video we can see the presenters reaction while the girl is still performing on stage at 2:08 which still gives the audience a taste of everyones feelings towards the audition.
